It is time to take a break! As educators ,we have busy sometimes chaotic schedules that can make it difficult to find a balance we need in our lives. Often times during the school year, the breaks in the school calendar are used to “catch up” on school work. I have been guilty of this. And while we do “catch up” for a few days, we never really give ourselves a true break to relax and rejuvenate our body and our mind. We often hear the phrase ” work life balance”, I like to think of my work as a part of my life but not something that should consume all of my time. My life has many different parts all of which I need to feel happy, to feel balanced. I have learned that taking a true break from my school work does help me to be more productive. I need to disconnect and unwind for just a couple of days and then I am ready to once again be creative and energetic for my students.
I want to make the most out of every day I have and to do that, I need to be my best self. Don’t get me wrong I am a go- getter with a lot of energy ( too much sometimes) and want to do IT ALL. Giving my mind and my body time to rest allows me to be my full energetic self for my family and friends as well as my students.
Sharing with my students how I take a break teaches them the importance of unwinding and unplugging for a while. I am showing them what works for me and how it then helps me to be more focused when I am at school.
How do you take a break? What are you doing during your spring break?
I am spending nearly all of my break visiting family and friends in California.
